Record the edition

Begin your reading note template with the title, author, edition and reading date. Page numbers can differ between editions, so recording the edition helps you locate a passage again.

Summarise in your own words

Write a short account of one argument. Keep quotations clearly marked and separate from paraphrases. Add a page or chapter reference to either so you can revisit the original context.

Add a follow-up section

List one question to discuss and one subject to explore next. Avoid turning the note into a full transcription. A concise record that you can search and revisit is the aim of this example.
